Share with us how you identify and how you came to that understanding of yourself.
I am a gay man who performs as a trashy drag queen who raps and sings.
Tell us about how your self-expression has helped you grow.
Performing as a drag queen has allowed me to be brave, strong, and confident.
Where did you grow up? What was a formative experience you had in childhood that led you to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Despite being known as Sin City, the community beyond the bright lights and casinos was conservative and not kind to a sissy gay boy. I always enjoyed music and performing, even if it was only for myself in my room.
What is a life goal that you are working on or have achieved? How has working toward this goal helped you understand yourself as an individual?
My biggest goal was to have a kid. My husband and I adopted our son in 2003. Adopting a son has shown me that I am not limited by what society or others might think of me and what I can do.
Who is someone who inspired you to be your true self? What was their influence on you?
My senior high school English teacher was Mrs. Cartwright. She made me believe that anything was possible and to go for my dreams.
What's something that you worry about?
Since I've gotten sober, there's not much I worry about. Most of what I might worry about, I either make bigger than it really is, it doesn't happen, or I am powerless to change.
What gives you hope?
The youth.
If you had a message for your younger self, what would you say?
Kick the shit out of that name-calling bully.
What's a piece of wisdom you've learned that has helped you?
Live one day at a time. And I also learned from the Barbara Streisand-Ryan O'Neal movie "What's Up, Doc?" that 3% of all fatal accidents happen in corner drugstores.
What is something you wish other people would know or understand?
Showing kindness nourishes your soul. Being resentful eats it up.
